On my laptop, there are two user accounts. The second one was made so my wife could use it to update her iPod. This morning she goes to log onto it and she gets a black screen with nothing but the cursor showing. It seems most of my problems came when I downloaded an older version of AIM.

Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, please help. It's greatly appreciated.

Try reinstalling your video drivers on your laptop. If you're not able to find them, post back with the exact make and model of your system and we'll see what we can locate.

Also, try running Startup Repair to see if that helps: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

i'm going to make another account right now, and see how that works. I was going to copy all of her music files, delete the old account, and place the music files back in the new account.

If that doesn't work I'll try your idea usasma

ok, making a second account didn't work. The only thing different this time around was that the screen was a blue-green instead of black.

So I'm going to have to go with USASMA's idea

I have a HP Compaq Presario F700 Notebook

I was browsin the Control Panel and I didn't see anything on how to reinstall the Video Drivers.

Also, if I do the system restore thing you suggested should I save everything on CDs?

Startup Repair ( info here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/repair-windows-with-windows-startup-repair/ ) is a tool to help diagnose problems with starting. As such, it shouldn't affect your data (nor should System Restore) - but it's always a good idea to backup your stuff. What happens if something goes wrong and your data is trashed?

As for the video drivers, there are 72 different variations of the F700 on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder...oftwareCategory

I'd suggest that you get the exact model number by using this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/famiNum...cname=c00033108

Armed with the exact model number, you can use the form on this page to locate the drivers for your system: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq_support.html
