Hi
I tried downloading bitdefender version 10, but vista doesn't like it and there doesn't seem to be an update that allows the bitdefender driver from functioning properly. Is there a cure? Also I've been really slack with my security and find myself in the embarrasing position of having no functioning firewall save the software that came with this computer....in short it's a load of rubbish and I may as well have no firewall at all. Can you suggest any solutions to my dilema?

Much thanks Hooligan

Are you getting any error messages with Bitdefender? If so, what are they. If you want two good alternatives, I use Trend Micro Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security on my two PC's. I like both.

Thanks for the Comodo! I'm getting an error message saying that windows has disabled the driver as it causes system instability. I tried checking online for a solution but there isn't one. I've checked the Bitdefender site and there are no patches or solutions for this. Is there a way round this or do i have to find another anti-virus program?

The message reads "This driver is blocked due to incompatibility issues". The blocked driver is bdfdll.sys. It also says " A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system. The driver will be disabled. Please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows". As I said there doesn't seem to be a patch or an update.

Regards Patrick

Hi Patrick,

That could be a problem. Is Bitdefender the latest version? I'm using Comodo and avira antivir http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php

Alan.

Hi Alan
It's version 10 build 247. I think I'll just uninstall it and try avira instead. If there's a solution please let me know.

Regards Patrick

I'm not aware of a solution other that deactivating Defence+ and restarting. I believe that Antivir is slightly better that Bitdefender though.

Alan.

I would use comodo firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

dont play with it till you have made a full back-up, as you can be 'cut off' by comodo and getting it to let you re connect is VERY difficult.

When you say 'cut off', are you referring to lack of internet? I have installed this firewall and v.2 on well over 20 systems and had this problem once which was solved be allowing it to locate the network.

What firewall are you using now?
Regards,

Alan.
