Hi,

I've been having problems with my pc for a few weeks.. Havn't really had time to get stuck into it and try to fix it untill now! Have learnt to deal with it. However, we got a new ADSL router today as we have finally upgraded to broadband (I'm in New Zealand... There are still 10x more sheep than people here!!!), and couldn't configure the router on my pc. Worked fine on my Dad's laptop... But the best I could manage with my pc was a timed out message when pinging the router... SO I'm wondering whether this stupid MediaAcc thing could be preventing things from working....

Anyway, would truly appreciate any help you can provide!! So here's my HijackThis log file from a few minutes ago!

Cheers, jack

Hi Jack_TURNER and welcome to the BC forums. Ok, I won't make a wisecrack about the sheep comment . After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{D6DFF6D8-B94B-4720-B730-1C38C7065C3B} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSVersion] C:\WINDOWS\System32\internetfeatures.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sihndm] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sihndm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Startup] kimochi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [icc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\icc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NAV Auto Updates] slserver.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sixtysix] C:\WINDOWS\sixtypopsix.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [supernews12] C:\WINDOWS\newsd32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tjsllr] c:\windows\system32\tjsllr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gah95on6] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System Startup] kimochi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NAV Auto Updates] slserver.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NAV Auto Updates] slserver.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O18 - Protocol: relatedlinks - {CD8D1CAA-FE4A-45DF-A06C-028AAF1821DE} - (no file)
O18 - Filter: text/html - {4F7681E5-6CAF-478D-9CB8-4CA593BEE7FB} - (no file)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #2

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\System32\internetfeatures.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sihndm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\icc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\slserver.exe
c:\windows\system32\tjsllr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sixtypopsix.exe
C:\WINDOWS\newsd32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access\ <--folder
kimochi.exe (search for this file and delete all instances - see the note below on searching in XP)

Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Step #3

Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #4

Please run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Step #5

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.
