If you go to Start> right click on My Computer> Properties, the page that opens will have this information under System:.

Do you have the Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) product code for your copy of Windows?

If you download SIW and open it you will see Software at the top of the column on the left side, scroll down till you see Licenses, click on this and if this is a genuine copy the product code will be listed there, it may be listed as Windows Key. If you have this then you may wish to contact Microsoft and see what you need to do to get your updates.

Start/Run...type winver, read/write the version data down.

Windows Update site will not work for less than SP2 installed.

SP2 is downloadable and can be manually installed (just like a program), http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

Follow the bouncing ball...do as suggested in the error message.

Edit: That is, if you believe you have a valid key/install of XP.

Off the shelf and custom built from a shop computers will generally have a sticker somewhere on the outside with the Windows key. Inspect your pc, look to see if you have one. If it's there, compare the key to the one which shows when you run SIW.
Is your pc custom built? My first one was and the tech installed XP. When I wanted to do an update (something to do with SP1), I got the message that it could not be installed. This was before the days of Genuine Windows Validation. I called the tech, he stated he used a copy of Windows that was used on other machines. Took a while before I was able to get an XP disk in order to have my own licensed copy.
My new custom computer came with an XP disk, so I don't have to worry about the validation.

Error messages such as the one in your screenshot usually don't have clickable links.
You'll have to manually enter the address in your browser. OR click on the link below.

Usually when Windows Updates pops up the non genuine warning, it's because the key isn't. You have two options, you either report and buy the OS from MS (at almost full price) or, you buy it elsewhere.

If this is a pirated OS, you are not doing yourself a favor by having it online, and neither are you doing anyone else a favor either. There's a reason Microsoft puts out those security patches... if you don't apply the patches, you're wide open to infection and when you do get infected (not if, but when) you will become a vector in the infection of others.

There's nothing in any of your previous posts that leads me to believe that the non genuine warning is an error.

I suspect this applies to this entire thread and possibly any other posts by the OP:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.
