I am usually pretty decent at figuring things out but this one baffles me...

If you stick a data disc in the cdrom/dvdrom drive and go to my computer double click and read it.
if you stick a audio cd in it plays.
If you put a blank cd or dvd in and go to my computer and double click it states that its a invalid function even though this used to work for adding files to it.

If you open a burning program and tell it to write files to the disc it writes them without any errors.

I have tried multiple blank cd brands same result

any ideas?

What software are you using to burn with?

Have you looked in the device manager to see if there are any errors or warnings under the DVD/CD-ROM?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
