Hi All

Grateful to have found the site and help is very much appreciated.

I run AVG Free, and Adaware regularly, but seem to have come down with some malware on my desktop. I am unable to enable my automatic updates on anything and cannot enable cookies so as to log in to sites. I am on a friend's laptop at present. Needless to say, I hope to avoid a clean install for the moment. I have tried cleaning with spybot, which showed Virtumonde on the system. Here is my HiJack this log:

Hello, ljgray13, and welcome to BleepingComputer.com! I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up.

Please take note of the following:
  • I will start working on your malware issues, this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clean. Just because a symptom disappears does not mean your system is clean.
  • If you have circumstances that you are aware of that will delay your response, then please let me know. This is to ensure that your topic remains open and I don't close it to start a new post.
  • Please set aside enough time to complete all the steps in each post and follow the instructions in the order stated.
  • Please don't run any extra scans or fix programs not requested by me as it could change the results in the reports I request.
  • If there's anything that you don't understand, stop and ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Thanks.

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your Desktop, or print them, for easy reference and to make sure you don't get lost.
Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below and do not miss any steps out. If at any point you have questions, or are unsure of the instructions, do not hesitate to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding with the fixes.

Step #1: Temporarily disabling Windows Defender's real-time protection & Spybot's TeaTimer
We need to temporarily disable Windows Defender's real-time protection as it can interfere with the changes you will make on your system:
  • Open Windows Defender by either clicking Start > Programs > Windows Defender or launching the program from the system tray icon.
  • Click on Tools, then click Options.
  • Under Real-time protection options, uncheck the "Use real-time protection (recommended)" checkbox.
  • Scroll down to Administrator options (bottom of the page) and uncheck the checkbox labelled "Use Windows Defender".
  • Click Save.
  • Exit/Close Windows Defender.
You can re-enable Windows Defender's real-time protection once your system is clean by reversing these steps. I will let you know.

We need to temporarily disable Spybot - Search and Destroy's Tea Timer as it can interfere with the changes you will make on your system:
  • Launch Spybot - Search & Destroy, go to the Mode menu and make sure Advanced mode is selected.
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools, then click on the Resident icon in the list.
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active" box.
  • Click on the System Startup icon in the list.
  • Uncheck the "TeaTimer" box and OK any prompts.
  • If Teatimer gives you a warning that changes were made, click the Allow change box when prompted.
  • Exit/Close Spybot - S&D.
You can re-enable Spybot's TeaTimer once your system is clean by reversing these steps. I will let you know.

Step #2: VundoFix
You have a Vundo infection.
  • Please download VundoFix (by Atribune) to your Desktop.
    Download VundoFix (VundoFix.exe)
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it is done scanning, click the Fix Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files; click Yes.
NOTE: Once you click Yes, your Desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer; click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.
NOTE: ** It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot. Follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot. **

Step #3: HijackThis scan
Scan with HijackThis again and post a new HijackThis log.

So in your next reply, please post the entire contents of:
- C:\vundofix.txt
- the new HijackThis log
NOTE: Use several posts if necessary to include everything in the requested logs.
If I have not posted back within 24 hours, feel free to send me a PM with your topic link.

Thanks so much for your offer of assistance - it's kind of you to make time for me. I plan to act on your instructions over the next couple of days, once my husband is back to take the baby off my hands and I can devote uninterupted time to doing as you direct. Will post as soon as complete and if I plan to be more than a few days, I will be certain to advise you.

Have a lovely weekend.
