Subject says it all

I was downloading a game, tried installing it, logged myself off by accident and crashed my PC. So i shut it down(the hard way, holding the power button), and unplugged the external hdd( it's a 2.5in samsung HM080HC drive). Gave it to a friend to install the game, but he said the drive didn't show up. I thought it might be a problem with Vista, since he has Vista, but I have XP, and my PC doesn't recognise it either.

You rekon it might be broken? because i went to play basketball afterwards to meet my friend to give him the HDD, and it might have got hit by the ball once while it was in his jacket on the floor.

The power light shows up, but my pc just doesn't seem to recongnise it(anymore)

It's not in Device Manager, not in My Computer, not in Add or Remove hardware.

What should i do? if it's gone how can i format it so i can use it again? /Cry

PS. list of things I've tried:
-Downloaded every Drive diagnostics software, and tried to see if they recognise it (http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287#samsung)
-run --> cmd --> diskmgmt.msc (nothing there except C:\ and D:\(CD drive))
Got a pirate WinXP disk and see if my Drive shows up(i have proper WinXP by the way, OEM version, came iwht my DELL pc)
-Taken apart the enclosure, and reconnected, rescrewed the HDD to the board.
-tried unplugging and replugging it on 4 other PCs

If it's Maxtor, i've read a few solutions when searching for solutions to mine. Sadly, forgot the link.
But i suggest you try what I've done.

Make sure you get the drivers for it, and try the HDD dianostic software, should be available from the manufacturer's website for free.
heres one of the solutions http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_y...25162415AAnjKL7
and some research that i've been doing for you, which i think has a similar problem to you

Hope this helps... :thumbsup:
