Basically I accidentally downloaded an .exe file and now I'm getting internet explorer pop-ups and a message in my icon tray saying that I have the networm-1.virus@fp and PSW.x virus. Also, A Critical System Warning message pops up saying I'm infected with Spyware.CyberLog-X. I ran AVG Free software scan already in safe mode I guess it couldn't find the malware or trojan. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hello chrisb08 and welcome to BleepingComputer!

Apollogies for the delay. The forum has been very busy lately. If you are still having problems please make sure you post back with fresh logs from the DSS scan.

Please do the following:
  • Close all programs and/or windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.
  • Click on Start, then click on Run.
  • In the Open: field copy and paste the entire contents inside the CODE box below and press the OK button.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\dss.exe" /config

This will open up DSS configuration.
  • Click on Check All.
  • Click Scan.
    DSS will now run again.
  • When finished, please post back both logs that open in Notepad: main.txt and extra.txt.
Thanks,

Johannes

Hi chrisb08,

You have traces of Vundo and Adware infection(s) on your pc.

Step #1

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Step #2

I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:
  • False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
  • System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either AVG7 or Avira - you also seem to have traces of Norton on your machine. That is total overload.

Step #3

Please download ComboFix from here and save it to your Desktop.

When done downloading, please print out and follow these instructions: "How to download and use ComboFix"
If you downloaded ComboFix previously, delete that version and download it again as the tool is frequently updated!
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.
  • When you have completed the ComboFix instructions, copy and paste the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
  • When done, be sure to re-enable your anti-virus and other security programs.

Do NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is a powerful tool intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.

Step #4

Click on start > run > and then paste the following into the "open" field: appwiz.cpl and press OK. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following if they exist: Viewpoint Media Player, Warning Center

Hi chrisb08,

Step #1

Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either two of the following: Norton Internet SecurityAvira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, or AVG 7.5.524 v7.5.524 - if you remove Norton please understand you will have to install a new Firewall as the mcafee one will have been uninstalled also.

Step #2

According to this writeup, you should uninstall vungo and download their new app.

Step #3
  • Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

    Folder::
    C:\Deckard
    C:\VundoFix Backups
    C:\ProgramData\Viewpoint
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

    Driver::
    Viewpoint Manager Service
  • Save this as CFScript.txt

    Posted Image
  • Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post that log in your next reply.
    Note:
Do not mouse click combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Step #4

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner (You need to use InternetExplorer or enable IEView in Firefox)
Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
Step #5

Please post back with the requested logs. Thanks!
