I'm planning on reformating my computer soon, but I have no idea what to do. I have all my documents on the :D drive so I'm wondering what I have to do? My dad partitioned it or something, so I have no idea how he did that...? What do I do if I have all my documents installed on my C? Do I have to backup my data to another source regardless if I have my documents on C or D drive?

As you can see I'm a complete newbie, so please help.

There is some good info on reinstalling Windows here:

Clean Install Windows XP

If you are going to format the C drive then everything on it will be lost. As such, any documents and files you want to keep will have to be copied to the D drive or backed up to CDs or an external drive.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it.
