Hi serob. Yes, it appears that we have a few infections to clean up here. To begin with I'd like you to do the following:
  • Download DLLCompare.
  • Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
  • Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
  • Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
  • Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
  • Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
  • Copy and paste the entire log into this topic.
  • If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt to where you saved DllCompare.exe.
  • Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.
I will review the log when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi Jay. Let's get to work.

It is a good ideea to print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

1, Download CWShredder from here
After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Don't use it yet.

2. Download AdAware SE Personaland install it. When you get the last screen, with the "Finish" button and 3 options, uncheck those three items.
Open AdAware and click the "Check for updates now" link. Close AdAware. Don't use it yet.

3. Download System Security Suite here:System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop. Install the program. Don't use it yet.

4. Download Hoster.exe and save it to your desktop. Don't use it yet.

5. Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
Click File menu -> Save and name the file as fix.reg

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0D721150-AEF3-457B-B03A-5097B623CE45}]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Plugin6.DNSErrObj]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\redalert.here]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{444A5674-FF85-45D4-9AE2-4199D8D70C85}]

6. Download KillBox here: KillBox. Unzip it to your desktop.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy and paste the line below in the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"
c:\windows\system32\6kr37itgjwudtil.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, press the YES button.

Your computer will reboot.
Check if the c:\windows\system32\6kr37itgjwudtil.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll is still there. If it is repeat step no.6. If not go to the next step.

7. Reboot into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Pepi\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

Dear OT,

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions.

The only abnormal thing that came up during the process was that when HJT tried to delete winlogon.exe the system showed a window saying it was being used. I shut it down from the task manager, tried again but it didn't work (all of this in safe mode).

Here's the new HJT log:

Hi Jay. I need you to run a new tool.

Download AutoStart Viewer and unzip it to a folder of its own.

Start asviewer.exe and then click the Main menu item and then Save. Post the contents of that log back here so I can review it.

Cheers.

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted.
  • Please open My Computer
  • Double-click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.
  • Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.
Step #3

Click Start>Run, type services.msc into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.

Locate the ISEXEng service and click the Stop button. In the Startup Type dropdown choose Disabled. Click the Apply button and then the Ok button. Close the Services window.

Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button. Type in the following line and press the Enter key:sc delete ISEXEng
Close the command prompt window.

Step #4

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ControlPanel] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exe internat.dll,LoadKeyboardProfile
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gah95on6] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.skoobidoo.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.slotchbar.com (HKLM)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.windupdates.com (HKLM)
O23 - Service: ISEXEng - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\angelex.exe (file missing)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #5

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\gah95on6.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\angelex.exe

Step #6

Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #7

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps using the Add Reply button and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi serob. Your log is clean. Good job! How are things running? Any more problems?

We have a couple of last steps to perform and then you're all set.

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
* CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus like the one you are currently using. It is critical to have both a firewall and an anti-virus application and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners
weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Have a safe and happy computing day!
