I've got some sort of trojan/multiple trojans. Things are running slower and I can't use system restore, it just shuts down Windows early it seems and then gives me a blue screen I have to power down from. I was getting blue screens on regular shutdown/restart, but I think I fixed those. I was also getting win**.tmp files in my temp folder but they stopped too. EDIT: They came back, so I'm reposting my hijackthis log. There's also still these:

4AECE6A407384DE3.tmp
37D8BF6785C63DB6.tmp
92618DBC42FD0246.tmp
ACBF1B06A8F8098A.tmp

If anyone recognizes the formatting. I'm also getting some temp files with the prefix "mcmsc," haven't figured out if they're malicious or not.

I deleted wineak32.dll from system32 in safe mode and it regenerated. Hijackthis also picks up mlJAqopN.dll, which doesn't seem to be a well known thing but it also won't go away.

Here's my log:

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you want to tell me how to get rid of Earthlink toolbar without Comcast highspeed ceasing to work, that'd be swell too. Not my priority right now though.

Thanks

Hi,

Did you purchase McAfee or is it a trial? Because it suprises me that there's still malware active and running here that McAfee should be able to detect and delete. So this is important that you let me know if you purchased McAfee and if it's still up to date.

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

I'm actually 99% sure I fixed it now... Used the two cleaners for Virtumonde plus other programs, deleted a whole bunch of crap, been checking with 3 programs for several hours and everything seems to be normal. Spose I should update McAfee though lol.

One question, is it normal that I can't system restore to before all this? It doesn't crash anymore, it just says on startup that it failed and no changes were made. Will restore points AFTER the incident work normally?

Hi,

I don't know what you deleted.. or what the scanners did delete, but all I know is that you were dealing with malware that drops a lot of other malware related files which are not detected by a lot of scanners yet.
That's why we always suggest to post the logs, since leftovers may cause a reinfection. Even though everything appears to be normal now, you can't know for sure what's still hiding there. Malware acts in different ways. While it displays popups and is annoying, another piece of malware may be present in the background, doing its job in silence (such as collecting all your passwords).
So, it's up to you if you want a second opinion if everything is really gone
If you want a second opinion and get rid of the leftovers, then perform the steps I posted previously.

Apparently combofix really wants you to know I didn't install recovery console. I will do it if I end up needing it.

There's still a lot of malware present even though you thought that your issue was resolved. Combofix already deleted a lot, however we still have to delete some leftovers.
Yes, the Recovery console is recommended before running Combofix.

The reason why Recovery Console is recommended is because malware damages a lot and causes an instable system - and because of that, it may happen that your computer won't be able to boot anymore. With the Recovery Console installed, there are extra options present to repair whatever malware damaged. Also, even though you're not infected, the presence of the Recovery Console is a useful feature in case a computer won't boot anymore because of several other reasons. Read here what you can do with the Recovery Console.

Extra note: After you have installed the Recovery Console - if you reboot your computer, right after reboot, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well.
Don't select to run the Recovery Console as we don't need it.
By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows.

After you installed the recovery console..

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kdfgj83ke.dll
C:\671423101
C:\WINDOWS\SwSys2.bmp
C:\WINDOWS\SwSys1.bmp
Folder::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\349168
Driver::
vundofixsvc

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • For Platform, select "Windows"
  • For language, select your language
  • Read the License agreement and then Check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement".
  • Click Continue
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java™ 6 Update 5
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
* Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
