Hi. Hope somebody can help me? When I open internet I keep getting pop ups from pages with CiD at start of the webpage and some other pages just pop up at any time as well but are bank offers and other things that look like more normal webpages because the are more like a normal website address.

I ran the Kapersky programme and it did not find anything bad that I could see - no warnings or viruses. I also have AVG virus software so maybe I am clean of viruses??

Thanks in advance for your expertise!!

BRS

Hi,

Navigate to and delete the following file IF present:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefos.exe

WATCH the spelling!! This is not firefox.exe ! So don't delete firefox.exe as this is the legitimate application. The one you have to delete is firefos.exe
If not present there, don't worry then.

Then, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\active setup\installed components\{A2040677-7FD0-86A2-8D18-A0A738BCF2EF}]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Then,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: BitComet ClickCapture - {39F7E362-828A-4B5A-BCAF-5B79BFDFEA60} - D:\Nouveau dossier\BitComet\tools\BitCometBHO.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Hi,

So there's only the klog.dat file present in that folder? So you never installed Firefox previously?
Can you upload the klog.dat file present in that folder here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php?channel=8
Let me know once you've uploaded it.

Hi,

I don't think you had Firefox installed previously. In your case, this folder and files were created by another infection you were dealing with in the past. Legitimate firefox creates the same folder, but since only klog.dat is present there - then it means that this folder was created by malware, Luckily that infection is already gone. I've received the file and it reminds me of the Backdoor Bifrose infection, which steals confidential information from your computer such as passwords etc...
But as I said, that infection is already gone. So what I suggest is - delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder and change your passwords, just to be on the safe side.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now. Are you still getting CiD popups? They should be gone normally though...

Hi thank you for your help. I have started some websites that often have a lot of popups coming when I load them and nothing for 5 minutes so I think you have fixed my problem!!!!!

I have AVG (Free Version) and have the Windows XP firewall active - should I do anything else that is fairly simple for me to understand to stop me from having this problem in the future without going to a shop or spending any/ small amount of money??

Merci

Glad I could help.

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
