I'm trying to help a friend hook up to the internet. She currently is using WebTV, but bought a new Dell Laptop. Is msnTV an internet service provider? Can she just hook up the computer to the phone line? I'm not really familiar with WebTV and she is not computer literate. thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

WebTV appears to be a service seperate from your standard ISP. I've never used WebTV but I understand it uses a box to kinda sorta connect to the internet using a browser designed for WebTV. It's for folks who don't want a computer. So when you get a computer, you have to change your service to a regular ISP. The best solution is to contact her service provider to go over her options. Maybe they'll offer a deal if she keeps both of them. She's better off getting an internet connection via cable or DSL anyway as it will be much faster than a standard phone line. And though she might say she doesn't care about that now, it won't be long before she complains about how slow dialup is.
