When pc boots up it shows cdrom. All so light & tray work,E is cdrom,at A:\>E: enter E:\>setup.exe enter I get ERROR. All so E:\>dir enter I get same ERROR. Changed both IDE cables & moved cdrom to slave on primary & master on secondary. Set bios to default. I have tried 5 diff. cdroms. Nothing works for cdrom! What do I try Next?

Set the jumper to master on the hard drive and attach it to the end of the cable. The other end should go to IDE "0" on the motherboard.
Set the jumper to master on the CD drive, attach it to the end of the cable and the other end to IDE "1"
Does the drive show up in My Computer?

Sounds like a driver/hardware issue.
Have you tried another working CDROM?
Could even be the disc is damaged, scratched, hairline crack.

Just to be clear...you did check the jumper settings on these drives, correct?

ATA Jumper Settings - http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/ref...r_settings.html

If one drive on a cable is Master/Slave...the other drive must also use the Master/Slave setup...the Cable Select setting (which is the default setting on new drives) will not work with a drive on the same cable which is using the Master/Slave setup.

Are you changing drive letter before the setup command? Your cdrom drive letter will be reassigned during the floppy startup, usually to the next available letter in the alphabet.

If E: is your normal cdrom drive letter, then to run the setup you probably have to go A:\>F: enter, then F:\>setup.exe. enter.
