What brand power supply? What brand of memory? What kind of hard drive(s)?, optical drive(S)? What brand is the case? What kind of heatsink?
Don't expect to get out of it what you put into it

I don't think you can get a lot. Maybe $150 or $200 if you're lucky. You can buy brand new systems with dual-core processors, 1-2gb ram, a hard drive, and an operating system for $300 or less.

Well, I've seen sales before at stores where they have computers for $300 or less with dual-core processors. Recently, I saw an add for circuit city and they had a big sale with a bunch of desktop pcs for around $250 and most of them were dual-core. At dell you can configure a basic pc for $360 that has a Pentium dual-core, 1gb of ram, windows vista home basic, and a 250gb hard drive.

I looked at circuitcity.com, and found this good deal on a computer. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Compaq-Pres...roductDetail.do . As garmanma said, you probably won't be able to get as much for it as you want.
