Hey guys -

I just built a computer and I'm using a SATA hard drive and an EIDE CD/DVD drive. The system starts just fine, and I can get into BIOS, but the CD drive is not detected, nor will it open or close. The LED on the front of the drive is lit green, but it wont open.

Now, I have tried two different drives with one cable labeled specifically for the CD drive and another that I got from an old systems CD drive. I have also tired both the primary and secondary IDE ports on the motherboard. No combination of these items seems to work.

What am I doing wrong? Bad motherboard? (I sure hope not, as it was purchased to long ago to RMA!)

Please help! Thanks so much!!!

How do you have the jumper set?

Have you tried a different power connector?

Does the drive show up in My Computer, or the Device Manager?

Is the CD-ROM enabled in the BIOS?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

I believe it is set to master on both the hard drive and CD Rom drive.

Yes, I tried a different power connector - even a different set of cables from the PSU

There is no 'My Computer' or 'Device Manager' - since the drive wont work, I have yet to load the OS

I believe it is enabled, but how do I check?

Thanks for the help

I will be away from an internet connection for the next three days. Feel free to help me out with this issue and I will post when I get back.

Thanks!
