Hi apples, Welcome to BleepingComputer. If you still need help I will give it a go.
Some of this stuff does not identify, we call them random named trojans. Rather than ask you about them I will ask you to look closely at what I am removing. If you see something that you know is valid, please pass over the item and make me aware of what it is. And you do have some nasties, thanks.

1) C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIEWPOINT\VIEWPOINT MANAGER\VIEWMGR_.EXE Installed by aol without folks knowledge. Unless you use it, I would like you to use Add Remove Programs to uninstall it.
http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/libra...yer/index.phtml
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=13470

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIEWPOINT| >>> folder

C:\WINDOWS\ujyx.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mbsmat.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xthymqe.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\ldcc.exe >>> file

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Once the log is posted, since we had to remove trojans, let's check for trojans, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/ Give me any information in your next post.

Thanks...pskelley

Hi Gail, Sorry, but I think I missed one. Please use HJT to remove this one and post me one more log. Thanks...Phil

Make sure all programs and browser windows are closed then click fix checked.

I am going to give you this information to help you fortify the computer for the chldren: Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/2520/how-did-i-get-infected/

I wish to point out that you have running programs that could be turned off startup and started via Start/Programs when needed. Time constraints won't allow me to list them, but I can give you the tools needed to locate them. Just don't stop anything from running at start up that you need for the computer to run or for security. If you have any doubt, leave it run.
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
http://computercops.biz/StartupList.html
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/

You seem comfortable on the computer so you may not need this, but here it is anyway: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

If you have any questions send them along with that log, so I can take a last look. Thanks...Phil

Hi Gail, You are clean of malware. When you look you are going to find that a lot of the old Compaq juke can go, just be careful it is not needed for the computer to run. Those first three R1's are search redirects an not needed unless you want them. Most all of the 09 items are the same, click on them and see. Use HJT to remove them if you wish. If you are needing a good search engine then Google is the best, and it even comes with a toolbar with a popup blocker too: http://toolbar.google.com/ I suggest the basic toolbar with out the add ons. All we need is a good search and a good blocker, the rest is eye candy and wastes resources if you ask me. What happened with the Xp computer. I will pop in an take a look. Good luck and safe surfing or go they way and cybersin no more...lol

One thought came to me as I was looking at your Xp machine. I own a Compaq 7360 with Windows 98SE. I learned the hard way that Win98 does not handle resources well. I found over the years if I always take the time to close one thing before starting another I had much better success with that Operating System. A suggestion to do this to the children may make their computer run a little better and stop a lot of the screen warnings about resources. Good luck..

Thank you for all of your help and suggestions and also about the added programs - most are a waste and never used. I hope to be able to purchase another xp for the kids and use the 98 off line. The xp seems to be eaiser to take care of vs the "old lady"

You are wonderful - have a great w/e. Gail :flowers:
