Basically, internet explorer doesn't load correctly (takes 2 times or more) and crashes a lot and has popups...not good.

Please help!

Hello Morphx2 and welcome to the BC forums. Before we start a fix I need you to verify a file for me. Please do the following:

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document:

dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\n?pdb.exe /a h > files.txt notepad files.txt

Save the document to your desktop as findpdb.bat and then close Notepad. Locate the findpdb.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. Notepad will open up with some information in it. Please copy/paste all of that information and post it back here.

Cheers.

I also turned off a lot of stuff in msconfig because it had wierd names so it doesn't load at the start, but is probably still there.

Should I just load everything and post the hijack?

Hey Morphx2. Absolutely, turn on everything so we don't miss anything and then post a new HijackThis log back here. Otherwise you'll be back in a week (not that we don't like you to come and visit).

Cheers.

Hey Morphx2. I feel your pain man. It looks like we are dealing with multiple infections here so we will need to remove them in steps. For the 1st step I'm going to have you run a couple of specialized tools to eliminate 2 of the main viruses and then I'm going to have you scan your system with another tool to identify another infection so let's begin. You might want to print these directions off because these tools will require a reboot after you run each one.

Step #1

Download the Symantec Adware.Huntbar Removal Tool to your desktop but do not run it yet.

Download the Symantec ISTBar Removal Tool to your desktop but do not run it yet.

Download l2mfix.exe and save it to your desktop.

Step #2

Close ALL open windows (including this one).

Locate the FxHuntbr.exe file on your desktop and double-click on it to start it. Follow the prompts to run it.

Step #3

Again, make sure that you close ALL open windows.

Locate the FxIstBar.exe file on your desktop and double-click on it to start it. Follow the prompts to run it.

Step #4

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document:

dir C:\WINDOWS\system32\n?pdb.exe /a h > files.txt notepad files.txt

Save the document to your desktop as findpdb.bat and tehn close Notepad. Locate the findpdb.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. Notepad will open up with some information in it. Please copy/paste all of that information into your next post.

Step #5
  • Locate the l2mfix.exe file on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.exe to start the installation.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
  • Open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing the Enter key.
This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the entire content of that log into this thread along with the information from Step #4 and I will review the information when it comes in.

Hi Morphx2. Well, I don't see an L2m infection so that is some good news. Can you now do the following please.

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text from the quotebox below into the new document:

dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\n?pdb.exe /a h > files.txt notepad files.txt

Save the document to your desktop as findnp.bat and close Notepad. Locate the findnp.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. Notepad should open up with some information in it. Include that information in your next post.

Then run a new HojackThis log and post it back here along with the information from above and we'll roll our sleeves up and get busy.

Cheers.

Hi Morphx2. I'm sorry, we did do that in the previous step and I did not see it down there at the bottom. Well, let's get to work.

Step #1

Perform the following. If some or all of the services are missing that's Ok.

Click Start>Run, type services.msc into the Open: textbox and click the Ok button. Search for the following services and perform the steps below on each one:tpnnutpmauau
WebSeach Toolbar support NT service
WinTools for IE service

Steps to perform:
  • Click the Stop button
  • In the Startup Type dropdown choose Disabled
  • Click the Apply button.
After you have stopped and disabled each of the above services click the Ok button to close the Services window.

Now click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open: textbox and click the Ok button.

Now type the following commands at the command prompt and press the Enter key after each one:sc delete iaglriku6
sc delete TBPSSvc
sc delete WinToolsSvc

Now you can close the command prompt window.

Step #2

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50213

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #3

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\dlmax.dll
C:\WINDOWS\vaupwhlk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\gruzylmj.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ajqhmbwd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sixtypopsix.exe

C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\WinTools\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Power Scan\ <--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\Toolbar\ <--folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Skip\Application Data\asib.exe

Also look for and delete this file C:\WINDOWS\system32\n?pdb.exe. The second character could be anything but the size will be 417,792 and the date will be 02/08/2005 10:34 AM.

Step #4

Download CleanUp! and install it. Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #5

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps using the Add Reply button and I will review it when it comes in.

Hey Morphx2. Looks like you got most of them. The n?pdb.exe file is no longer showing as a running process either. We still have a few entries to clean up but the files are missing. Please proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button. At the command prompt type each line below and press the Enter key after each line:sc delete TBPSSvc
sc delete WinToolsSvc

Step #2

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0130BD19-4867-7ABE-BFB7-75D0B6A696E5} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {28A76BF6-F161-8DEA-4F3C-D838733BC1BE} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\zmzcyxp.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A7231DA4-AEEB-3C2E-F6AE-3BE7E533B772} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B3443287-F544-950F-C824-C2BF3845B38E} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bluxcpf] c:\windows\system32\bluxcpf.exe
O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: WinTools for IE service (WinToolsSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe (file missing)

  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system32\zmzcyxp.dll
c:\windows\system32\bluxcpf.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\WinTools\ <--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\Toolbar\ <--folder

Step #4

Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #5

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps using the Add Reply button and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.
