this is driving me nuts and i can't find an answer. all i can find is this link in everyone's hijackthis logs.

desktop.presario.net/scripts/redirectors/presario/deskredir2.dll

there's more that starts with ?...

on the desktop, when we're doing anything, windows will keep popping up over and over until the sytem locks up. did searh & destroy and another spyware/adware program. what does this file/site/whatever do and what is it for??

I am not sure what you are saying. Are you saying files are being made that when clicked open that url?

Try Microsoft's Anti-Malware Beta

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en

Download it, install it, update it and then run it.

After you do that get a malware scan from Trend Micro:
Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:

(You must use IE for both of the above)
