Hello

I inherited Dell Dimension 4400 Win XP with CD RW NEC NR 7900A

It reads fine, but when I copy-paste a file onto a blank CD I get an error message

E:\ is not accessible

incorrect function

Do I need a special program to write to a CD?

How to do a complete un-install and a clean install again?
I do not have an original XP disk.

There is also a DVD-ROM that works fine.

Thank you.

You cannot copy-paste files to a blank CD.

Files are normally burned by laser to blank CDs.

XP has CD-burn software/capability built into it, just click on HELP and type in "burn CD" and read.

Go to My Computer...place cursor on CD burner, right-click...follow instructions for burning (Write These Files To CD).

This should get you headed in right direction.

Wait a sec.

I'm saying that the dialog box does not appear when I insert blank CD.

I do not have a writable CD folder yet to copy my files there. Something

happened to the usual way of CD burning, but what?

Is it possible that former owner had some other method for creating

CDs and somehow disabled XP method? How do I re-establish the XP way?

I appreciate very much your help.

Thanks.

I understood what you meant...did you try the second suggestion (My Computer, etc.)?

When I right-click on the CD-R icon, select properties,
in Autoplay for Blank CD I get a menu with following options:

Create a CD using Roxio Easy CD Creator
Burn an audio CD using Windows media player
Create a CD using iTunes
Take no action

Then nothing happens whatever I choose and apply and OK.

Any ideas?

I posted another problem that I get a strange window with MDAC folder
right in the middle of startup, right before the icons in the bottom right corner
start to appear. I close this window and things seem fine. It was not resolved here.
But maybe something is not completed right at the start-up and now it shows
when I want to burn CDs?

Is it possible to reinstall just this part or entire XP should be reinstalled?

Thanks.
R.
