Re.Floppy Disc Drive

How can I stop my Floppy disc drive from running continuously from "boot up",although empty.
At present I have disabled it.

Put a floppy in it and press the button to eject it.

Did that stop the problem?

If it did, clean or replace the floppy drive which you should be able to do for less than 20 dollars.
