OK, I though with allot of questions about building your own computer compared to buying a dell gateway etc.. and about the savings in money I would put together 3 systems. Cheap but descent, mid grade, and Ultra PC. All the PC manufactures like Dell etc...get you with there 4 year warranty when all in all all parts come with a guarantee no matter what at least 3 years for most parts and some even longer. That is a big price right there at least 300 to 400 dollars. So I will list every part I would use in each category and the total price and them compare to dell and gateway price.

Cheap System
Motherboard 43.00

CPU 73.00

Case 25.00

DVD Drive 30.00

Cd Recordable 25.00

Ram 40.00

Hard Drive 60.00

HeatSink Fan 6.00

Vid Card 70.00

Speakers 50.00

Total Plus 3 year warranty Is 422.00 And with a descent video not onboard video!!

Dell Wants at least 899.00 without a warranty speakers and no video card??

Gateway wants 989.00 for no where close to the setup! Only one drive a cd/rom drive , no speakers, no video card

So you tell me Both of the system come no where close to the speed and do not come with any CD/rw drives let alone 2 of them and no video card and some cruddy speakers and you didn't build it yourself! Although we do have to figure in buying Windows Xp so add another 100.00 for home and 150 for xp pro. And there still no where close! Next System On the way!

System 2 Midgrade Yep things get more expensive

Mobo 90.00

Ram 110.00

Power Supply 54.00

Case 66.00

CPU 171.00

Dvd R/W 70.00

DVD Rom 30.00

Sound Card 72.00

Case Fans X 5 30.00

Heatsink And Fan 45.00

Speakers 121.00

Hard Drive 110.00

Vid Card 160.00
Total Cost 929.00 including 3 year warranty and xp pro

Now for Dells Price,

Dell want 1,557.00 for a system does does not have the warranty and a pretty sucky video card. And the memory is only 256
Now Gateway wants 2,009 for a pretty comparable system exept you onnly get a 60 gb hard drve!!And a not so good video card! But a better cpu, only marginal though

Next System on it's way

OK Here is the actual system I am working on now (buying pieces only need one more piece) the vapo chill!!

Ultimate Pc

Motherboard 220.00

CPU 830.00

Ram 293.00

Case, Cooler, Fans 820.00 ( this is what I am waiting to buy)

DVD/rw 189.00

DVD drive 125.00

Sound Card 166.00

Speakers 344.00

Hard Drive X 2 316.00

Video Card 589.00

Power Supply 148.00
Total 4,040

Now Gate way and dell have no chance to compete because of the vapochill! But we will max them out!

Dell's Ultimate pc price is 4,475.00 and thats with only 2 7200 rpm hd's No cooler able to cool your CPU to negative 40 degrees C but the same video card speakers and sound card. Not a good deal

Now Gateway's best pc is 3700 but that is only maxing out at 512mb/s ram a 9800xt vid card and some crappy speakers and only 1 hard drive at 7200 rpm!

Well you can see the savings but not everyone has that much cash so they need to finance! Hope you learned how much money you can save!

Thank you very much for educating both myself and those who have not built one from scratch.

Please post back when a suggestion works, so that others may learn.

it is cose to it but it does not compete with the 64-fx53, for once AMD is on top right now but not for long of course. Amd has always been cheaper that intel. If intel made this chip it would probly be around 1,500!

Thanks for all the insight into building the diffrent set-ups. I too, am looking into building my own system just because of the very fact you brought up that it is just so much cheaper and you get so much better performance. Just like if you if you into Hi-Performance cars. You do it yourself it's cheaper plus you know it's done right. Thanks agian, I will definantly ask for your advice when I go to build.

Very funny. Yeah i hate that bucket o bolts! Or hunk o junk! I think when i get new one instead of selling or keeping it i just get hammer and smash! LOL its really that bad. I use my new laptop now. Only use that thing if i have to. My household is a 1 and a half pc home. LOL Well do you know of any good sites to get dirt cheap parts to build my own pc. A must have is 1gb of ram. hopefully in my price range without sacrificing anything. I have looked on ebay and tigerdirect.com but i want even cheaper!

I will see how cheap I canmake it that 1 gig of memory is what is going to kill ya!

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-220-029&depa=0 166.00

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?...rtby=14&order=1 41.00

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-138-026&depa=0 25.00

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-104-160&depa=0 47.00

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-106-936&depa=0 70.00

Total 349.00
It can get a little cheaper, But it's alot faster than what you got. Like I said that gig of ram is getting you! And you would have to look for a 21 inch monitor, at like ebay there alot cheaper there! And somtimes you can find some reall good deals at new egg on monitors but not all the time! The cheapest they have right now is 335.00. I got my Big Viewsonic 22inch for that price but it was at the right time!
