This problem is with the game TES IV: Oblivion

I was tinkering with the wyre-bash python program for deleting unnecessary game spells, etc. I also have OOO mod installed, and use wyre bash to transfer game files.

When I started up a saved Oblivion game, everything was purple (including all the menus and game options) and all the background textures were black or missing.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling the game but it still doesn't work. I've cleared my appdata, cleared my oblivion files in my user folder, and then deleting everything and reinstalling the entire game, but it still doesn't work - the menus are still purple. (I'm using VISTA btw)

Can anyone help me?

Hello BlueScreenDeath,

I had a similar problem, but uninstalling the game, deleting all files then installing the game fixed it. Have you tried updating your graphics drivers.
Regards,

Alan.

thanks
I've already tried reinstalling/deleting everything. I'll try getting the newest graphics driver and see if it'll work.

It seems I can't get the right driver lol. I have a 8400m gs and a 155ish version of forceware.

I've tried to download 167.26 for my 32 bit Vista laptop, but for some reason every version I've downloaded has refused to install properly.
It keeps saying how my comp isn't a 32-bit, even though it is. I'm not sure if this is a corrupted file or something, because I keep getting
this problem and can't find a decent new driver for the nvidia 8400m gs

It sounds like a bad .ini file. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ these people create modded .ini files to bypass the restriction put in place by NVidea.

As always, back up first.
Regards,

Alan.

Woot, I finally fixed the problem.

It turns out I had a massive 8gb corrupted file of Oblivion in my Virtual Appdata Drive. (gawd I hate Vista)
I deleted the file and reinstalled everything and it now works fine.

thanks for your help
