I need a bigger external drive for my backups. The 8 gig isn't cutting it any more. Can someone tell me which is faster, a external hard drive or a bigger flash drive?
Am I right also in assuming the HD would be USB also?
Thanks for the advice.

Hello floyd,

The two devices would be running through a USB connection so in theory they could both go very fast but the speed would be limited by the type of USB interface you are using.

Alan.

USB Flash drives come in variety of data-transfer speeds. There are slower flash drives too. An external HDD requires external power supply while flash drive doesnt.

But an external HDD would be better since flash drives lose speed over time.

Thanks everyone. I bought a small 250 GB external HD with backup software and it's really slick. Only about the size of a blackberry and needs no external power only a short usb cable.
Thanks again.
