I have no idea what's wrong, but a week ago, my computer just started to randomly freeze on me. I don't know why since I didn't do anything out of the ordinary either. It's becoming more frequent, like 4-5 times a day. The only reason I can think of as to why this is happening is that awhile ago, my friend sent me a picture, and I accepted it, not knowing that it was a MSN virus. However, someone from another forum helped me get rid of it, and it seem to be working fine until now.

And also, when I try opening my task manager with the CTRL+ALT+DELETE, the task manager pops up, but just a part of it. It looks like this:

Please help, I would really appreciate it

Hello bloo and welcome,

Do you know what the name of the virus that caused the problems was?

You could try the system file checker to repair windows system files. Start run sfc /scannow
Regards,

Alan.

I don't know the name of the virus, sorry.
But when I start run sfc /scannow like you said, a black window popped up and quickly disappear.
Is that suppose to happen?

Try Start/Run...type cmd...then type sfc /scannow.

What you described happens sometimes, maybe when the system needs defragging.

I would run some free online scans.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Also it may be worth looking in the event viewer for some more information.Start=>control panel=>administrative tools=>event viewer. look in the categories for errors and warnings. Let us know what you find.
Regards,

Alan.

Just a hunch, but try double clicking on the blank area immediately to the left of "End task". FYI - what it looks like is that the window has been resized down and the title bar removed.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

I ran the free online scans and nothing seem to be infected.
On the other hand, I couldn't find the event viewer you were talking about.
I went into control panel but couldn't find administrative tools.

Just a hunch, but try double clicking on the blank area immediately to the left of "End task". FYI - what it looks like is that the window has been resized down and the title bar removed.

Thank you so much, you're a genius! My task manager is back to normal now.

Actually, I was baffled by this a while ago, and someone helped me out. I'm just passing the favor along!

To open Event Viewer you can go to Start...Run...and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Thank you once again. So I checked the even viewer, and under the application, there's a lot of errors and warnings.
Do you want me to somehow list them?

Double click on the errors to get the detailed information, and give us those that occur around the time that the computer freezes.
