Hi there, I wonder if you could help with my HijackThis log please .. i have started having a problem with my machine where i am in the middle of typing say in a messenger, or i have been opening my documents folder to rename a folder or document and all of a sudden my machine really slows, as if its processing something, and then i cannot type real letters, all that comes out is foreign letters, eg the a with a mark over the top, i with 2 dots above it, as if my whole keyboard has changed .. im hoping my Hijack This log may shed some light .. also i have one thing on the log which i have previously been told to remove, its the WON weblauncher but it seems i need this for one games site i visit regularly, when i deleted it last time i could not play .. many thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Try fixing this and seeing if it helps:

O12 - Plugin for x@vec~c@!c: C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\PLUGINS\npqtplugin3.dll

otherwise i dont see anything wrong with the log.

Hi Lawrence .. thanks for your reply .. funny you should ask me to remove that program as it seems to want to stay! .. i ran hijack this and found it in the list (this is definitely something that was not on my hijack this log a month ago) selected it and tried pressing the fix button and it tells me im about to delete something as usual, i say ok, then the hijack this screen just goes blank .. i left it for a good 10 minutes ( acouple of times) but nothing happened and the computer does not seem to be processing any information .. all i can do is quit hijack this and reopen and try it again, this happened three times

as it was the first time i have tried to fix something using the new version of hijack this i then thought i might have had a problem with the download (from Merijn) .. i then deleted all of hijack this from my system and downloaded again from your very own site, hoping that this was just a bug in the first download, but alas, it was not .. i just tried to fix it again and it will not budge .. any further suggestions lawrence? .. i wonder where it might have came from

thank you

Hi. Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Plugins

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Right click on x@vec~c@! and delete it.

No I haven't had the problem again yet Lawrence *fingers crossed* .. its not something that happens regularly, maybe only 3 times a week, even though im online every nite for at least a short time .. I think that must have been the culprit though, it looked very ominous and had some of the letters in its appearance on the HijackThis log that my keyboard turned it .. so i thank you again as im sure you have fixed this problem .. i might be back if not ;) lol

Log looks clean...great job!

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Next,

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following tutorial and follow each step listed there:

Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet

Glad I was able to help.
