This morning I turned my laptop on and it wouldn't start up. All it says is "Unable to read disk" or something like that any ideas on how to fix this?

Try a bootable diagnostic utility from the website of the manufacturer of your hard drive.

You'll have to try and boot from the CD - rather than from the hard drive (because, I presume, that's the disk error that you're getting).
To do this, you'll have to provide more information about the make and model of your system.

Then, if you need directions for the hard drive test, you'll have to provide us information about the maker of your hard drive. If you cannot open your case to get at the hard drive, then I'd suggest this free test: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
Read the user guide thoroughly, and ensure that you use an ISO recorder to put the test onto a CD. If you don't use the ISO recorder, then the CD won't be bootable - and you won't be able to boot to the test.

In general you've got to press F12 on an Acer when booting to access the boot menu. Then tell it to boot from the CD/DVD drive (with a bootable CD/DVD in the drive) and press Enter - it should boot to the disk that's in the drive (rather than the hard drive).
