This seems incredibly inexpensive for 8gb flash drive. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on it or their products in general.

It's cheap for a reason. This is one of the slowest flash drives you will ever use.

They say it's USB 2.0, but I read the reviews and people are complaining that it is slow. How do you tell if a USB drive is slow? I normally just check the USB version

You will be able to tell. Just by plugging it in and using it. Transferring files will take longer and it will lag if listening to music or watching video from the USB Drive.

Oh, but there's now way of telling straight by looking at it from a store window?

Nope, that is why whenever I buy something like this, I go online and read reviews. I just google it and read.

The data transfer speed is written on the package of USB Flash drive. The speed may also vary depending on USB hardware and OS.

I think Transcend has products optimized for value(slow) and speed(hi transfer speed) just like anyone else
