OK so I've do a system restore back to Sunday (3 days ago) and now all my programs are running like they've never been used (asking to be reinstalled etc) and I can't change my background picture either. Windows Media Player trys to install, gets half way through then reverts back to the 1st install page, Microsoft Money says it needs components of IE5! Really don't know what i've done and am hoping i've not proper busted everything!

Hello decc7,

Just to rule out the possibility of infection run a couple of online scans...

1 http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
2 http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
3 http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Have a look in the event viewer for more information on these problems...

How To Use Event Viewer
Look for errors and warnings.

Try repairing damaged system files,

Start->run->sfc /scannow
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Regards,

Alan.
