So someone just gave me a dell inspiron 5000 for free so first youthing i did when i got it back home was tbake of crappy windows 2000 pro, and put on xp pro sp3...Now idk why but apparantly my disc was a little scratched(i used it like 2 days be4 and it was fine)but anywho...it made me skip some files and i did and it worked. Until i realized that i have working sound, and it is installed and everything. But the volume controls on the keyboard and the side of the laptop are non functional. When i went to go click "Show volume icon in system tray" I get a message saying that it cannot be put into the system tray because volume control program is not installed, please use add or remove programs to install it" Does anyone know how to fix this and return me my control over volume?

Do you have a multiple license for that disc?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Unless you have a multiple use license for the operating system then that copy of XP can only legally be used one time with one computer.

It matters because it's illegal if it's not a legitimate license. And this forum does not support the use of pirated software.

From the forum rules:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
