Posted 13 April 2005 - 11:26 AM

I have a problem getting rid of a CoolWebSearch applet and my IE browser keeps reverting to the "about:blank" homepage.
I run Ad-Aware SE 1.05, plus Spybot S&D, plus SpyBouncer (registered version) and cannot get rid of this malware infection.
I have tried using HyjackThis to clean it up. I have tried all my anti-spy prog's to clean it up. I have run an on-line virus check by PandaSoftware and cleaned out all indicated viruses. I run Norton AntiVirus as a background monitor. I have even tried using KillBox to get rid of the files, but they just keep coming back.
Am posting a HijackThis log to see if anyone can help:

OK - have run all the recommended scans and clean-ups. Only "hitch" was that the malware continued to try to change the homepage even while I was running these programmes, and it managed to throw up a pop-up window ad for anti-spy/anti-spam software!
Here is the log from just after the clean up:

Looks like the only item that remains is the bouncer program running in the background.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete once and end the following task
C:\Program Files\Bouncer\Bouncer.exe

Close all your running programs, run Hijackthis and place a check next to the following.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bouncer RunStartup] C:\Program Files\Bouncer\Bouncer.exe 101

and click fix

Now locate the following folder and delete it.
C:\Program Files\Bouncer

Reboot and Post a fresh Hijackthis log once complete.

OK. Will do, but SpyBouncer is a programme I bought to try and get a little more 'real-time' protection. Is this app a problem? (it seemed like quite a good scanner and clean-up app at the time I bought it)
