I just reformatted this computer (factory reinstall). It is an old dell computer. I used my brother's flatscreen LCD monitor and it worked fine. I noticed that everything was very large. Once I got the computer reformatted and all, I tried to change the screen resolution / color resolution in the Settings tab of Properties. It doesn't allow me to change either setting. I know this is not right because the monitor worked fine on my brother's computer.

I attempted to install drivers for the monitor but it didn't work.

Please help!

You need the video driver. What is the model number of the Dell?

It is a Dell E176FP (17 inch LCD flatscreen) But the thing is, I already went on the site and downloaded the driver. I followed their instructions but it didn't do the things they said it would. (I downloaded on this computer and brought the files over on a flash drive, if that makes any difference. don't think it would)

Thanks for your reply,

-chris

You need the driver for the video chip in the computer, not the monitor. That's why we need the model number of the computer
I'm sorry I wasn't more specific

We're going to have to do a little more homework on this one. There's 13 choices for a Dimension 4600
Download the freeware version (with installer) of S.I.W.. Run it and Scroll down to Hardware. Click on Video, and see if it says ATI or Intel and let me know which

Well, that doesn't help narrow it down any. You have either an ATI or Intel chip. Let's start with the ATI one. Go HERE and scroll down to Video and click on the +. Select the fourth one, number CD24a,A04
Download instructions are Here:

Downloaded and Installed and then rebooted, but it still doesn't allow me to change the resolution or colors.

What next?
