How do I report posts that need to be locked/deleted by a moderator?

At the bottom of the FORUMS index page, find a Moderator and send them a PM linking to the post.

You may also request this by posting about it here if you cannot find a Moderator:

I was just wondering why we don't have the report button here - was it abused back in the early days of BC? Or is it because it PM's every moderator and thus causing a heap of confusion not to mention the many multiple requests some of them being repeats?

If it's possible, would it be worth having the Report button enabled but modifying the code so that by hitting the report button it makes an auto post in the BC Tidiness thread? I think that would be better and much easier - I often see HJT logs and posts around but don't have the time to post it in the HJT/BC tidiness threads because I am about to go somewhere or just plain busy.

Worth doing so?

I was just wondering why we don't have the report button here

Because the decision was made after lengthy staff discussions, that it was an unnecessary feature and had the potential for misuse. It was decided that it was better to not implement the feature. Than implement it and then remove it if it was abused.

If it's possible, would it be worth having the Report button enabled but modifying the code so that by hitting the report button it makes an auto post in the BC Tidiness thread?

Since the staff has decided that we will not utilize the report post button. Further work on modifying code that would need to be updated along with the other existing forum software modifications will not be necessary.

I think that would be better and much easier - I often see HJT logs and posts around but don't have the time to post it in the HJT/BC tidiness threads because I am about to go somewhere or just plain busy.

Easier for who? You? It's not a race to see who can report the most posts. If you don't report or post about one, there are thousands of other visitors who will. Oh and we do have staff who will take care of it without being notified sometimes.

Worth doing so?

Maybe, but as I said. WE have made the decision that we will not utilize the feature for our own internal reasons.

Thank you for your suggestion. But if a feature is not enabled here that exists on another IPB forum. It most likely is because we for our own reasons chose not to use it. Or have found that we do not need it with excellent staff we have working these forums.

Excuse me, but I have no intentions of who gets to it first - when I say easier, I mean that for anyone who is going to report it. It will save us having to open the HJT Misplaced Thread/BC Tidiness Thread, copying the link, then posting it in the thread.

I am not a selfish person and always put other before myself - I was saying that on behalf of everyone to make things easier

Other than that, a good suggestion is one that has been discussed and thought about as we have done so :flowers:

Thanks.

Not surprisingly, I may have missed something -

is there a post somewhere that outlines the proceedure for "reporting a post" or problem?

Animal is right, the Staff here is like a bunch of, er, animals when it comes to identifying Spam and other problems.

For the amount of posts it receives, this board is easily one of the best moderated.*

* I can say that because I'm not on the Staff here. I do have a t-shirt, though.

How to report a post:

If you feel uncomfortable reporting a post in the link jgweed had supplied above. You may PM any staff member with the information and link. I am also available for the most part of every day as well if you wish to send the PM to me. Keeping in mind those of you who may reside other than the in the US, I am on US time.

I agree totally about not having a 'Report Post' button. The amount of accidental clicks alone would be a nightmare for staff.

The process of sending a PM to a mod or using the 'Bleeping Computer Tidiness' thread forces the reporter to think about why they are reporting a post. (Though this last hasn't seemed to help me much. )
