My computer picked up the following items on 7/5/08:

Trojen:
trojen-downloader-zlob

Adware:
psguard/winhound fakealert
e404
antispycheck

and various tracking cookies.

I found this out from a free "BEST BUY" computer scan.

Okay!...the problem is when I try to start Internet Explorer. First of all it takes way too long to connect and when it does it redirects to a page that states " Insecure Internet activity. Threat of virus attack
Due to insecure Internet browsing your PC can easily get infected with viruses, worms and trojans without your knowledge, and that can lead to system slowdown, freezes and crashes.
Also insecure Internet activity can result in revealing your personal information.
To get full advanced real-time protection for PC and Internet activity, register AntiSpyCheck.
We recommend you to protect your PC now and continue safe Internet browsing.

I have windows xp operating system.

I tried spybot, avg7.5, adware2007 & deleting a few files of my own....which probably wasn't a smart thing to do but I don't think I did too much damage if I did at all.

oh yah, I did try combofix.....not sure if I did it right but in any case the problem still exists. I do have the log file. if it helps here it is:

ComboFix logs should not to be posted outside the HijackThis forums. It is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Please create a new topic explaining the nature of your problem in the Am I infected? What do I do? forum. Describe pop-ups and system tray or desktop icons that have appeared. Explain what is "going wrong" with your computer. Note any tools you have used and their respective results.

If needed, we will direct you to our HJT Preparation Guide.

Thank you for using BleepingComputer as your malware removal source.
