As per the title really...

I cant identify what drivers i need to download them.

I've searched on here and downloaded the SIW programme, but to be honest it doesnt make much sense to me. I'm a complete novice at these things.

The dvdrom is working but nothing else.

Device Manager has a yellow question mark for the following:

Other Devices:
Network Controller
PCI Device
PCI Device
PCI Flash Memory
PCI Flash Memory
PCI Flash Memory
SM Bus Controller
USB2.0 Camera
Video Controller(VGA Compatible)

Its an Acer Aspire 5100 AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK36 (2.0GHz, 512KB L2 cache)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi decco, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Did the Acer come with any other discs other than the installation disc?

Try looking in the Device Manager to see what errors or warnings are appearing and for what devices.

Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Device Manager. In the pane on the right if it only shows your computer with a box with a + inside, click on the + to open the rest of the tree. Errors will be red Xs, warnings will be yellow triangles with an exclamation mark inside. Let us know what devices have errors or warnings.

Hi dc3 thanks for your quick response.

There are no other discs with the Acer.

Device Manager has no conflicts other than the yellow question mark as in my last post.

It actually belongs to a friend, at the moment i have it connected via my wired adsl internet connection, but i know that he has a wireless connection, so i'm assuming that wont work when he gets it back either

Try this web site and see if your drivers are listed there.

What happens if you try to update the drivers that have the warnings?

If i try and update it either asks for the disc, or for the location, neither of which i have.

The Acer site gives a drop down menu, but i dont know which ones i should use. Would it mess things up even more if i downloaded the wrong ones? I have a vague idea of what i need.

My head hurts

Thanks for that Alan, however i got half way through the scan and it aborted (encountered a problem). I've tried it twice with the same result.

I really thought that was going to be the answer too...

What sort of error do you see? Also do you have .net framework installed on the system? I think the tool requires it.

Alan.
