Recently, my wife has been complaining about AOL locking up with numerous "about:blank" windows. I've been trying to wean her off AOL, so I've been coaxing her by moving her favorites from AOL to IE. She still won't budge. She called me in this morning and, again, on AOL 9.0 VR, there they are ... Whatever link she eventually goes to, starts up a an IE browser session that starts with //ads.web.aol.com/file/ followed by a number that brings up an ad. This, in turn, starts up numerous tabs that contain the same thing, with a different number, until the machine comes to a crawl.

Mind you, this does not happen when she uses IE and goes to AOL sites from www.aol.com, mail.aol.com, my.screenname.aol.com, or webmail.aol.com/27481/aol/en-us/Suite.aspx, only when she is using the AOL application itself. And, it NEVER happens to me when I am using IE.

I searched on the web looking for any hits with "AOL"and "bout:blank"and "ultiple windows"but have not found anything relevant, except for your site!

I installed Deckard's System Scanner and ran it per your instructions. Here are the two reports:

Hopefully I've done everything correctly and removed whatever it is that was causing the problem!

Thanks,

I'll have to let you know when my wife uses AOL, since I detest it! I also detest the AOL Conncction Services app that runs on startup in the task bar, yet I can't seem to stop it  ...

I'll get back to you when I let her loose on it!

Thanks again.

OK, She's been using it for a day and a half and, so far, no recurrence of any lockups or multiple "about:blank"s! From what I saw, I didn't think that the items that showed up were anything other than Internet Explorer add-ons (weatherbug, mini-bug) or that CTHELPER (Creative Labs sound synchronizer) would be any problem!

Thanks!
