The most annoying thing I've been getting on my computer is the 'Not Responding' message.

I've had two computers and two operating systems in the past 4 years - and it has been the same with each... 'Not Responding'.

I have to use Windows Task Manager to get things moving again.

Is it just with me, or is this normal? It's incredibly frustrating. I've felt like putting my boot through the monitor screen.

Can you be a little more precise with your description? What exactly is it not responding to?

Hi garmanma.

It can be anything I'm running at the time. It's not confined to just a certain few programs. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough times to a damn nuisance. Certainly this happens at least three time a day.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

I'll click on something... then after waiting awhile I'll check with the Windows Task Manager, and sure enough there's a notice saying 'Not Responding'.

And then a Microsoft notice will pop-up for me to send them an 'Error Report'. By now they must have miles of 'Error Reports' sent in by me.

Sending the error reports are a good thing, until you're certain it's the same problem - then it's just a waste of your time IMO.

Check the details of the next error report (before you click on Send). There will likely be a file listed that ends in .dmp or .mdmp. Copy that file to your Desktop. Then use this link to run an analysis: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246
Post the results of the analysis here for us to have a look at.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Since it's not confined to any particular program (I have a video-edit program that always produces these notices)...how much RAM is installed on your system?

How is your pagefile set up? Does XP manage it...or do you have preset max/minimums?

Thanks usasma. I'll do what you suggest.

hamluis - I've got 512MB RAM.

Pagefile setup? Never heard of it. Sorry, can't answer that one.

Within the next week or so I'm going to try to understand what this is all about. I want to know if it's of any used to me.
