Hi

After crazily clicking Yes to a dialog that I KNOW I should have clicked No to, I found my work laptop infected with various malware just when I really needed to be being productive: Antivirus XP 2008. Blue screens that read "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer!". That kind of thing. I did a lot of reading, a lot of installing (including falling for SpyMaxx once, but also installations of Spyware Doctor, Anti-Malware, CCleaner, and Ad-Aware), a lot of starting in Safe Mode and System Restores and, somehow, I ended up with a system that SEEMS to be operating just fine. I'm not sure how. It suddenly isn't opening numerous windows when I visit google, or trying to open windows when I'm offline. I'm really not sure at all what I did to "fix" the problems, which a few hours ago seemed overwhelming (even more so because our help desk knows a lot less than I do, and that's saying something). But I'm online now and all is fine. In fact, the only problem I can still detect is the fact that although I have managed to replace the "Warning! Spyware has been detected on your computer!" with one of the Windows standard images, I cannot restore my previous desktop image, stored in My Documents, as my desktop. I can't change it to anything not in the default list one sees in the Properties>Background box. I can Browse... to another image, but it doesn't appear. This suggests that though everything seems fine, something is not quite as it should be.

Given this, if anyone would be willing to look at my latest HT log, I'd be hugely grateful. In short, is anything wrong with this? I suspect something is...

This is my work machine and it has a LOT running on it - 2 versions of Flash, a SQL and MySQL server, IIS, various Remedy clients, all the usual MS stuff ... lots. I don't know if that complicates things. In advance - thanks for any advice you can give.

Regards,
Terry
