I mistakenly was surfing the net with the firewall off and got myself into trouble. The malware is slowing windows, popping up every type of ad, and creating havoc on my computer. It has started popping up random websites when i open internet explorer. I have included the hijack this reports below as instructed. HELP! Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED, thank you in advance.

Hello Builderman,

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Sun Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Sun Java Runtime Environment 6 Update 6".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-6u6-windows-i586.exe and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Please disable Windows Defender before running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

To disable Windows Defender:
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy and Paste the entire Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware report in your next reply along with a fresh DSS Main log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the dll/ocx: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5" Click on ignore mbamext.dll

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will post my findings tomorrow!

Quick Question: When deleting java from my system, it says delete all older versions of Java. Is "JAVA 6 Update 5" and "JAVA SE Runtime Environment 6" older versions that need to be deleted? Those are the only two I have left and wasn't sure if that should be included in the deletion process. Thanks again

Hi builderman,

Yes, delete these:
Java 6 Update 3
Java 6 Update 5
Java SE Runtime Environment 6

You will be installing the new version which is Java 6 Update 6

Hi Builderman,

You still have one infection we need to remove.

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix checked"

Reboot your computer, post a fresh Hijackthis log and tell me how it is running.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

SifuMike,
I ran the Hijack this and got a message that essentially was telling me to right click Hijack this and run as admin. Anyway, after three attempts the items you wanted me to delete finally went away. for some reason they wanted to stay around! I have attached the log below. i will be sure to help you out as you have certainly helped me thus far. Thank you! I also have one more question that you may or may not be able to help me out with. When I was setting up my computer initially i mistyped my own name "Austin" and instead typed "Austom" This sounds like an easy fix, however i can't seem to fix it. I was told that it would eventually work itself out as i have everything under "Austin", but to no avail it is still "Austom" several months later. If you could help me with this annoying little problem as well that would be much appreciated. Thanks again, Builderman
FYI; i no longer have any pop-ups thus far and the computer is back to running at lighting speeds. Thank you!

Hi Builderman,

Your very welcome.

I dont think I can help you with that, but our Windows forum may be able to.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language  jre-6u7-windows-i586.exe and save to your desktop.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
I think your Windows Defender is preventing the registry changes.

To disable Windows Defender:
Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix checked"
Note: If any browser or other windows are open then the fix will not work.

Reboot your computer, post a fresh Hijackthis log and tell me how it is running.

SifuMike,
I installed the Java 6 update 7 and ran hijack this. I couldn't find the files that you wanted me do delete. I have attached the Hijack this log below. The computer is running perfectly now as there don't appear to be any popups lately. Thank you.

Hi Builderman,

I installed the Java 6 update 7 and ran hijack this

I still see an old version of Java on your computer. Hijackthis says Java 6 update 6 is on your computer.

    J2SE Runtime Environment 6.0 Update 6

  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

After you install it then post a fresh Hijackthis log for a final check.

Hi,

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\PROGRA~1\Java\JRE16~1.0_0\bin\ssv.dll

Still does not look correct. Did you download the Java 10 Beta version?
I dont recommend installing any Beta versions. Too many bugs in them.

Let's look in a different place for signs.

Open HijackThis 2.0.2
Press the button 'View Misc Tools Section'
Press the button 'open uninstall manager'
Press the button 'save list'
Save it to your desktop.
Press Save. Save it your desktop.
A notepad file will open.
If no notepad opens then it will be on your desktop (where you saved it)
Post the content here in your reply.
Close HijackThis.
