Hey gray123,

about SopCast:

SopCast is a simple, free way to broadcast video and audio or watch the video and listen to radio on the Internet. Adopting P2P(Peer-to-Peer) technology, It is very efficient and easy to use. Let anyone become a broadcaster without the costs of a powerful server and vast bandwidth...

I have never used it, but it looks legit. Of course this has nothing to do with the source your brother got it from. If downloaded from the wrong location, you could manage to get infected. Lets see what we got in your log. First some general comments though:

Please note that comments are made in green, links are in red, important things are outlined by using the blue color and the numbered steps I would like you to follow are outlined with orange.

Please also take note of the following:
  • I will start working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Step #1

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Step #2

Run HijackThis, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Launcher] %WINDIR%\SMINST\launcher.exe

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

Step #3

Tencent QQ, [2] contains Adware.

Its thus suggested to also fix the following lines and removing the programme itself:

O2 - BHO: Tencent Browser Helper - {0C7C23EF-A848-485B-873C-0ED954731014} - C:\Program Files\TENCENT\SSPlus\SAddr.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {669751ED-D558-49AE-B01A-3B374CC7910E} - C:\Program Files\TENCENT\SSPlus\SSup.dll

Furthermore, the Soso Addressbar Search Downloader is also rated adware or potentially unwanted programme. Thus I suggest you also fix the following line:

O11 - Options group: [TBH] SOSO AddressBar Search

Step #4

Can you please have a look if the extra.txt file created by DSS is present in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder? I really want that log.
If you cannot find the log, then please do the following:
  • Close all programs and/or windows so that you have nothing open and are at your Desktop.
  • Click on Start, then click on Run.
  • In the Open: field copy and paste the entire contents inside the CODE box below and press the OK button.

    "%userprofile%\Desktop\dss.exe" /config

This will open up DSS configuration.
  • Click on Check All.
  • Click Scan.
    DSS will now run again.
  • When finished, please post back both logs that open in Notepad: main.txt and extra.txt.
Step #5

We shall remove the "disabled" file once I receive the main.txt and extra.txt from you and gain a better overview of your system.

Thanks!

Hey gray123,

I see Tencent still being on the pc. While I wont force you to uninstall it, as its regarded as popular in Asian regions, I wish to once again point to another description to underline my reasoning: stup.exe.

I just found this: http://forums.whatthetech.com/cant_go_to_certain_sites_t92500.html
The least you could have done, is actually pointing to that thread or asking it to be reopened at whatthetech. The guide does state to provide as much info as possible.

Step #1

Run HijackThis, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these entries:

O2 - BHO: Tencent Browser Helper - {0C7C23EF-A848-485B-873C-0ED954731014} - C:\Program Files\TENCENT\SSPlus\SAddr.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {669751ED-D558-49AE-B01A-3B374CC7910E} - C:\Program Files\TENCENT\SSPlus\SSup.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {99CAAA27-FA0C-4FA4-B88A-4AB1CC7A17FE} (MGLaunch_USAv1001 Class) - http://ares.netgame.com/download/mglaunch_USAv1002.cab

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

Step #2

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    %WINDIR%\SMINST\launcher.exe
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste Standard List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Step #3

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in InternetExplorer:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
Step #4

Please go to Eset Onlinescan (NOD32)
(You need to use InternetExplorer or enable IEView in Firefox)
  • You will then see the Terms of Use, tick the check-box infront of YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Now click Start
  • Should you face a Security Warning that asks if you want to install and run a file called "OnlineScanner.cab", click Yes
  • Click Start (the Onlinescanner will now prepare itself for running on your pc)
  • To do a full-scan, tick: "Remove found threats" and "Scan potentially unwanted applications"
  • Press Scan
  • The Onlinescan will now start and scan your pc (this could take a while)
  • When the scan has finished, it will show a screen with two tabs "overview" and "details" and the option to get information or buy software, just close the window
  • Click Start >> Run... >> type: C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • The Scanresults will now open in Notepad
    • Click into the text area, right-click and chose "select all" (or use ctrl+a)
    • Right-click again and chose "copy" (or ctrl+c)
    • Close Notepad
  • Navigate to this thread and post your log along with anything else requested from us, by right-clicking and "paste" (or ctrl+v) in the text area of the reply post you just created.
Note for Vista Users: Eset is compatible but Internet Explorer must be run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.)

Step #4

Please post back with a fresh HijackThis log, the Nod32 log, otmoveit log and let me know how the pc is doing.
