Hi Anyone,

Yes, if someone could explain to me on what to do for a mouse that won't work.
The pointer just sits there and anything that I've tried seems futile in trying to get it to work.
This is on my old PC with XP as the OS.

I've tried:

1. Two different mouses both of which work in other PCs but they won't work here.
2. I've tried restarting my PC a number of times, still no change.
3. I took out the mobo battery, that didn't work.

God, I don't want to have to do a total re-install just for this!

So, does anyone know what can be done here?

Remember what ever it is has to be done without a mouse. Thanks.

John

Anything reflected in Device Manager as a problem?

In my limited experience...mouse dysfunctionality is solved by buying a new mouse. I've never seen the function impairment related to the O/S itself, but I guess that the port could be bad.

Are you talking PS2 mouse...or USB mouse? If only one, try the other on the system.

IN device manager:

1. A PCI driver is missing
2. The Ethernet icons are open? I don't know why it's open but it's on a wifi.

I am using a wired (PS2?) mouse, not a UBS.

I was removing the mouse and trying one that I was straightening the pins on to get it to work.
That is when I started to get this problem. It cleared up enough to test the mouse that I was repairing.
Which now works and have already given it back to it's owner.

I have two corded (PS2?) mouses. I can't get either to work on my Old PC.

If memory serves me correct, I remember that I ended up doing a total re-install to correct this.

Like I said, God I don't want to have to do that!
I just got done doing a total re-install for someone else here yesterday and it takes all freaking day.

I can't imagine that the mouses don't work.

OH, heck, Ill try my UBS from my new PC that I'm using right now and see what I get. Be right back.

But, if you have anything to add, please do.

John

The UBS works great on it.

So, apparently it's the mouse.

I did just open and clean it before it started acting up. OH well that's how it goes.
