I turned on my laptop to find a missing startbar and icons.

I tried a lot of te fixes i have seen already but to no avail. I cant right click on the screen cos it doesnt do anything, in the task bar manager i tried the explorer, exe and i do get the taskbar and icons back but only for a few seconds before they come back and dissapear again.

I tried a system restore but it wouldnt let me go back to a previous month. I tried scanning for virus using panda but nothing. I cant get on the internet cos the icons only stay on for a few seconds.

Im going mad any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im using XP Pro with SP2 nd IE6

I would suggest that you have some kind of critter in there somewhere that is causing these symtoms. I would try to start the computer in Safe Mode with Networking...Log in as Administrator and try to connect internet explorer. If you can then download and use any or all of these free programs to either scan or repair anything found.

If nothing shows up you might try to the boot into last known good configuration from the same screen as Safe Mode. The other things to consider would be to do a "Repair" or "Fresh" installation of XP (providing you have the CD and a valid key). If you have a recovery partition you can re-install from there.
Does this look like an OldGrumpyBastard or what?

And a big thanks Douglas

I already tried scanning it with Panda and Avast but nothing, I did a reapir install but with no luck and it wouldnt let me do a recover from an earlier date. I worked down your list and HOUSECALL final found it, had a nasty little pair of Trojans.

Many Thanks
