COMODO Firewall Pro 3 is reporting that there are almost 40 outbound connections. (0 inbound) All of them are from avgnsx.exe apart from one and a few that are listening. (Such as 2 firefox.exe ones). Searching on Google this tells me that it is part of AVG. Indeed, we do have AVG Anit-Virus 8 running on the computer. I did not find any answers to my questions on Google though so I have come here. 3 of them are TCP, listening while the rest are TCP OUT from our PCs local IP address but all from different ports. The connections are to 3 different IPs all on port 80. If these are simply for the AVG update manager then why do they appear to always have a connection. One connection has 44.224 KB "BYTES IN" and 34.388 KB "BYTES OUT" We have been using Windows Firewall up until a few days ago so I can't know if this has been happening since the program was installed. Even if this is normal, I would appreciate if a...uh what is the word I am looking for... computer savvy person :/ could take a look at my log file as our computer has recently had problems but fixed itself quite quickly.

If someone knows whether or not running Defense+ from the COMODO Firewall Pro 3 as well as AVG is acceptable please let me know as that would save me from making another thread in another forum.

Thanks

I apologize for the very long delay. We have a huge backlog of HijackThis Logs to handle and it has been taking us greater time than normal to get caught up. If you are still having a problem, and want us to analyze your information, please post a brand new HijackThis log, along with a description of any problems you are experiencing. If we do not hear back from you within a couple of days we will need to close your topic.

When posting your logs please post them directly into the reply. Do not attach them.

Thank you for your patience.

Title was: Tampered Programs, Programs deleted, settings changed ~ OB

Scans with Ad-Aware 2008, Spybot - Search and Destroy and AVG Anti-Virus 8 in safe mode tell me that my system is clean. However, a few days ago I tried to open a video in Windows Media Player. It had disappeared on the menu that pops up when right clicking a file. It had also disappeared in the Start Menu. There are still files in its folder in Program Files and my dad can open it by going to his library but he can't play videos (can't remember if he can play audio). The same day I also wanted to crop an image but Paint also seems to have disappeared. I can't seem to find a folder that contains or used to contain the program. I can only open Internet Explorer 7 with add-ons by going to All Programs in the Start Menu. I can't open it from its folder and I can't open it with add-ons. Today I opened Firefox 3 and some of my add-ons were missing (It was fine the last few days unlike the other programs) and the ones that were there told me to restart Firefox to install them. So far these are the only symptoms I notice.

Recently my dad downloaded a .rar file which contained .exe files. (It was supposed to be a video). AVG found it was infected with Worm/Autoit.BTZ but I doubt my father ran the file. (Even though it is named as a worm I am wondering whether it is a Trojan Horse?)

We are using Windows XP Home Edition

Also, when I scanned in safe mode with AVG there were quite a number of files (I think all belonging to Windows) that could not be scanned because they were locked. Is this normal?

I don't see any malware in your HijackThis log. Let's see if another scan shows anything up:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

I ran dss.exe but I had programs open and couldn't stop it scanning. So I waited for it to finish and it opened main.txt and extra.txt

I ignored them, restarted the computer (my dad had programs running as well) and ran it again. This time only main.txt opened :/

-- End of Deckard's System Scanner: finished at 2008-07-26 16:42:10 ------------

I ran dss.exe but I had programs open and couldn't stop it scanning. So I waited for it to finish and it opened main.txt and extra.txt

I ignored them, restarted the computer (my dad had programs running as well) and ran it again. This time only main.txt opened :/

Go to Start > Run... and copy/paste the text below into the Runbox:

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

A window will open. Click on Check All, then click Scan!.

When it has finished, Deckard's System Scanner will open two Notepad files: main.txt and extra.txt- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply
