hello all,
unfortunately i am not very computer literate. After talking to microsoft on microsoft support regarding an issue with windows update, During one of their solutions (which was to remove/uninstall all antivirus, anti-spyware, and turn off the windows firewall) in order to re-test windows update, i have recently had trouble with being redirected to random sites through google.

when i search a site through google (google is my homepage), about 80% of the time, this appears
<hxxp://64.28.190.75/click.php?c=1bf97837014a556014bd92d28702> in my web browser line, and i get redirected to a random site a few seconds after. i have just tried to replicate this in yahoo and msn search engines, but they appear to work fine.

since then after obviously restoring my firewall, and antivirus software (AVG, and spybot-S&D) they have not found any problems, yet i am still being redirected to random pages in a google search.

after following the huge amounts of information on the web, it led me to the trends micro site, and hijackthis, which after usage has produced a log and told me to post the log on one of the forums.

firstly, am i looking in the correct place??!

secondly, if i am, could someone interpret the hijackthis log for me?

Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:
  • In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
  • Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
  • If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
  • Finally, please reply using the Posted Image button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
We need to create a Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) Log
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from one of the links below and save to your Desktop.

DSS will do the following:
  • Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, Internet Cache Files, and empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for an analyst to review.
  • Automatically run HijackThis. It will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed. So if HijackThis is not installed and DSS prompts you to download it, please answer yes.
Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges when using Deckard's System Scanner.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
  • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open in Notepad:
    • main.txt <-- Will be maximized
    • extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
  • If not, they both can be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder.
  • Please copy (<Control>+C) and paste (<Control>+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
Note: When running DSS, some firewalls may warn that DSS is trying to access the Internet; especially if you are asked to download the most current version of HijackThis. Please ensure that DSS is given permission to access the internet.
Note: If you get a warning from your anti-virus while DSS is scanning, please allow DSS to continue as the scan is not harmful.


In your next reply, please include the following:
  • DSS's Main.txt
  • DSS's Extra.txt

Hello Pipboy,

You have posted a hijackthis log http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?p=212592 and you are already receiving assistance there.

Please refrain from asking for help from others while you are being instructed by someone helping you with a hijackthis log elsewhere. Any modifications you make can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. If you had posted your log here, similar rules would apply. We would ask that you refrain from asking for help elsewhere.

If you followed any other advice already, please be sure to inform your HJT Helper. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. If you have any questions, please PM me or another moderator.
