Recently when using IE I have had pop ups for Winadviser (this said it had found porn on my computer and wanted to help me reomove it, started scanning my computer with out any notice then proceeded to start to download a program to remove it the files it showed were supposedly on my computer and let me say the pictures that came up are not and were never on my computer. At this point I pulled my connection) and AnitspywareMaster was going to try and do some of the same I guess but I just pulled my connection again. Both times I was only able to stop these programs or whatever they are from continuing by unplugging my modem. Since my IE and Firefox run very slow. IE will only run for a few minutes normally before the pop ups begin bombarding me. Firefox just does not do much at all. I am currently using my Safari browser with no problems so far. Please help me to get this stuff off my computer. Here are the logs:

====================

You are running an older version of Java. This can be a security risk so let's get you the latest version.
Upgrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
  • Click on Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Please post a new log from DSS.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Prior to running Combofix.exe you should disable your antivirus program and disconnect from the internet.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

Yes, I certainly would have automatic updated enabled.

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dkjtekpy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fogkwpqj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fdlkfrwh.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\JASONC~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\_tf32.tmp

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{ac83c4ff-39eb-4ad3-ba83-cc1469125b1e}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{E5C8FBDC-D74E-432E-862D-2780CA72F9BF}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"f0d1c943"=-
"BMf3e2fadf"=-
Prior to running Combofix.exe you should disable your antivirus program and disconnect from the internet.

Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe as seen in the image below.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.

Once again here is the results from following your advice. I do have another question after seeing how much crud is on my computer. What programs do you suggest to prevent these kind of problems? I currently use Norton and it obviously does not keep me 100 % protected.

Log from running combo fix again:

I've never been a big fan of Norton, but that being said, there is no single antivirus program alone that can offer you 100% protection. Malware today is too diverse. I will offer some suggestions on how you can protect yourself once we get everything cleaned up.

Use OTMoveIt to delete these files.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jqpwkgof.ini
C:\WINDOWS\BMf3e2fadf.xml

Please post a new log from DSS.
How is your computer behaving now?
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

My computer is running much better. I am still mainly using Safari to get on the internet. I did used Firefox a few times yesterday with no problems. Have not used IE and will most likely no longer do so. Thank you for your help.

Everything looks pretty good.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

R3 - URLSearchHook: &Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - (no file)

Aside from that, your log looks clean to me! :)
Here are some final steps for you and then some recommendations.

First, your log shows that you don't have the recovery console installed.
Check this link for more info on the recovery console and how to get it installed.

How to install and use the Windows XP Recovery Console

Next we can clean up the tools that we've used.
  • Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • A list of tool components used in the Cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  • If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OtMoveit2 to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Wow, thank you very much for all your help. I have a few questions. What browser do you recommend using? Or what one is the most secure? Will the programs that you had me install for protection work with Firefox and Safari? Last question, do you get paid for this. If I make a donation what does the money go to? Do you get any of it?

I don't have much experience with Safari, but I definitely recommend Firefox. The programs that I recommended definitely will serve to protect you with the use Firefox as your main browser. The main recommendation I have with Firefox is that you always make sure to keep it updated. The updates are usually done with security in mind so always be sure that you are using the most current non-beta release.

I volunteer here so I do not get paid, but if you donate through the button in my signature below it does go directly to me.
