My daughter's computer...which is two years old....was malfunctioning....it would turn on....but the screen would flash a message...to quickly to read...and then go black.....

Just now,,,she hit a button right before the screen went black and it read IBM Rescue and Recovery....we are at this point now...read the info and hit continue...it has the IBM Introduction to the left....but won't let us into anything...wait......it just popped up with step 1....choose what you would like to do.....restore only the windows back up.......rewstore my entire hard drive including and settings from a back up ......restore my hard drive to the original factory state....what do you think is going on and what do we dooooooo....

Depending on what button she pushed. She activated the Restore/Re-Install console
When you restart the computer and start tapping the F8 key, does Windows safemode come up?
