I have just downloaded the shareware NOD 32 3. Currently I have more than four hours scanning and it is still in C. I have a pertitooned hard disk (D), and an external one. Is it a normal speed? And what might be going on? Avir has failed flagrantly to get updated and AVG seems to have lost its prestige for slowing the system. Thanks for any help at these respects.

How large is the hard drive in question and how much space is used? The more files on a disk the longer it takes to scan them.
Have you defragmented your system recently?
Regards,

Alan.

The speed of an anti-virus or anti-malware scan depends on a variety of factors.
  • The program itself and how its scanning engine is designed to scan.
  • Deep scanning or quick scanning.
  • What action has to be performed when malware is detected.
  • Competition between the scanner and other applications for system resources.
  • Your computer's hard drive size.
  • Disk used capacity (number of files) that have to be scanned.
  • Running processes in the background.
  • Interference from malware.
  • Interference from the user.

Thanks a lot. It seems that I have a space trouble, because my son installed the same NOD32 3 and got a scanning in 45 minutes inside a very big PC. I suppose, because we have talked by telephone only, that he performed a complete scanning... Fortunately my technician friend is currently in the city back and will come tomorrow in order to help me with the famous undoing of the partition (and re arrangement of everything inside my new 80G external hard disk), that I believe is spoiling my good will and yours. In any case, Spartan dear friend, many thanks for your excellent and solid help. Friendly regards.
