Xircom Modem Stopped Working

My fiancees laptop (Dell LAtitude w/ Win XP pro) has a xircom cardbus ethernet 100 + modem 56 in it. Everything was working fine until a few days ago when she couldn't connect to the internet. In device manager, the modem and ethernet come up with the ! inside a yellow circle. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware, rolling back the drivers and updating the drivers to the newest versions I could find, even did a system restore, but no luck. Any clues/suggestions? thanks.
