hey all,

i bought a new hp 8510p-a a couple weeks ago and ive had alot of annoying little problems downgrading from vista to xp, but i've fixed most of them, apart from one, which i need your help for

HP offered to do a software and drivers update, so i was more than happy to let it do its thing, to my detriment.... one of the updates it offered to do was a hp wireless assistant update, the exe file is called sp37970.exe. now, whenever i click the hp wireless assistant button (which is accidental most of the time, cause the blomin thing is touch activated), ittl come up with an error, as seen on the screeny below:

i dont know how to debug it and i downloaded and installed the 1.00 version which achieved nothing.

i dont really want to system restore to before the day i did it, as this is a new computer ive been intalling a few programs on it and running updates that i dont want to have to go through all again...

any suggestions?

all help is greatly appreciated :flowers:

There is basically not much that you can do about this type of error (unless you choose to de-bug and go to the line in question and fix whatever is wrong with it providing you know what is wrong)...The more common practice is to just disable script de-bugging from showing this alarm and go on with your life...

Open Internet Explorer.
Click on Tools and then Options.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Check the boxes next to Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) and (Other)
Remove the check in the box for Display a notification about every script error
Click Ok

As I have stated there is very little that you can do to fix run-time errors...by disabling the script debugger at least you don't have to see the message. You shouldn't have any problems because of this error...it's just a script error...
Does this look like an OldGrumpyBastard or what?

You can stop the HP Info Center from running, or you can uninstall all of the HP software.

Other than that it'll take a lot of debugging experience to figure out what the actual problem is. It could be a problem with the script that's calling that function, it could be a problem with the function that's being called, or it could be a Windows problem (or a bunch of other things).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
