I have recently been receiving a system error prompt when I click on folders in any drive of my computer (this includes the Windows Update "folder" and Add/Remove Programs "folder"). The only thing I can recollect installing was critical Windows Updates. The pop-up reads as follows:

Sytem Error
Attention (username)! Some dangerous trojan horse detected in your system. Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate files corrupted. Click ok to download antispyware.

I figured this has been solved already, so I did a Google search. I attempted to follow the instructions on this link: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=74121. I downloaded Mallwarebyte's and followed the procedures on the link. Unfortunately, I'm still getting the popups. Just as a sidenote, I have Symantec AV Corporate, Ad-Aware 2007, and Spyware Doctor. At this moment it is late, so I am running a full scan on Mallwarebyte and then Symantec in the morning. I would have done a system restore if Windows actually saved the point prior to the installation of the updates. I am posting my latest HijackThis! and Deckard logs:

Hi,

<<< instructions to upload the file removed since I already received the file >>>

Then, RIGHTClick HijackThis.exe and select to run as Administrator.

Check and fix next entry in it:

O2 - BHO: Sigma plugin - {7DBF8390-552B-4D55-9F62-00D032032691} - C:\Windows\busant32.dll

Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix checked.

Then REBOOT your computer.

After reboot, navigate to and delete next files:

C:\Windows\system32\GhgNqBeg.ini2
C:\Windows\busant32.dll <== if still present
C:\smp.bat

Then, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa]
"Authentication Packages"=hex(7):6d,73,76,31,5f,30,00,00

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Let me know if that solved your issue.

By the way... Please ENABLE UAC again, because you have it disabled. If you want to prevent infections, you should enable it.
No wonder you got infected.
You can enable it via msconfig > Tools:

miekiemoes: It has appeared to have done the trick! Just as an FYI: the three files GhgNqBeg.ini2, busant32.dll and smp.bat were not present on my system at startup. I had "show hidden files/folders" enabled.

I think I have an idea where I may have gotten this trojan from, and I've let the forum who hosts the particular file(s) know about this. It was a music album in a .rar file. I hated how the UAC message box always popped up for almost everything I clicked on, but it appears it could have helped prevent this. I will be turning it back on to prevent this from happening again once I finish typing this message (gives me a chance to restart). Just in case, I'm posting another HijackThis log.

Thank you again for your insight and suggestions to remove the pest. If there is a way, I would like to make a donation to keep the site running. After looking over a few other threads, this site is really worth contributing to.

Hi,

The C:\Windows\system32\GhgNqBeg.ini2 file is still present. It's indeed a hidden file, which you have set to show, but it's present as a hidden "system" file and that's why you don't see it. So for the option to show hidden files and folders, Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. Then you'll find the file

The rest looks Ok again. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!

Found the GhgNqBeg.ini2 file and deleted it. I did not see the other two, which is good.

Thank you again!
